Yoko Matsuda Yoko Matsuda
Yoko Matsuda, Violinist, received her early musical training at the Toho School of Music in Japan.
After coming to the United States in 1960, she has won many awards including first prize in the Merriweather Post Competition. She holds a Bachelor of Music degree from University of Hartford, Hartt College, and a Master of Music degree from Yale University. Ms. Matsuda began her career with Young Concert Artists in 1963, has@performed on numerous occasions as a soloist with major Orchestras both in the U.S. and in Japan, and as a chamber musician, performed with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and Music from Marlboro.

An avid quartet player, Ms. Matsuda was a member of the Yale Quartet, and on the west coast,@was founder and first violinist of the Sequoia Quartet. Throughout the 1970's Yoko Matsuda@organized the Ima Concerts which presented chamber music series in 8 communities around Los Angeles and Orange County as well as annual tour of Japan.

Ms. Matsuda taught as Head of the string program at California Institute of the Arts and was on@the faculty at Pomona College. After she returned to Japan in 1997, she taught at Showa Music University. She has recorded for Vanguard, Delos, CRI, and Nonesuchrecords.
